FAQ'S
WHAT IS A SOLE AGENCY?
As a sole agency, we ask that we are the only modelling agency to represent the child, and that you entrust us with the responsibility of finding and booking the shoots.
The benefits of having a sole agency are that we will handle everything for you, there is only one agency to update and communicate with, and we can ensure the model is paid as they should be, and licensed correctly.
Some parents prefer the ‘Non-Sole’ way of working, which allows the model to be placed with multiple non-sole agencies, and for the parent themselves to find ‘Out of Agency’ work for the model as well. It is personal preference, and ultimately, has to be what you feel is the best fit for you and your child.
DO I NEED TO BE BASED IN LONDON FOR MY CHILD TO JOIN A MODELLING AGENCY?
Nope! As long as you are happy and have the flexibility to travel with your child to shoot locations (often London but can be anywhere in the UK and abroad), then we are happy for you to apply.
ARE THERE FEES TO JOIN A MODELLING AGENCY?
Wayward does not charge any fees. There is no joining fee or subscription. We take the industry standard commission (25%) from any shoots the model is paid for, and that is all!
WHAT PHOTOS SHOULD I USE IN A MODEL APPLICATION?
Our application form allows you to upload 4 images - at least one headshot, and one full length, plus two additional images. Ideally, the photos are taken against a neutral background, specifically for the application. Preferably non-professional images. Hair should be natural/without excessive product, and loose in at least one photo. Try to avoid hats, sunglasses, dummies, face paint and food/dribble on faces where possible.
WHAT HAPPENS IF MY CHILD IS ACCEPTED BY A MODELLING AGENCY?
At Wayward, you will receive a phone call to talk about next steps. The registration forms will be emailed to you to complete, and once sent back to the agency, the model’s profile and portfolio will be created and suggestions can begin.
WHAT IS AN OPTION/AVAILABILITY CHECK?
An option / availability check is the first email Wayward will send you when a client would like to check the model for a shoot. You will receive all the information about the shoot, including brand name, rate, location and date. The email recipient can then click Yes or No to let the agency know if they can attend the shoot. Wayward will let the client know of the model’s availability and await their confirmation.
WHAT IS A CONFIRMATION? WHAT IS A RELEASE?
The second email Wayward will send you, is a confirmation or a release. This will let you know if the model has been officially confirmed for the shoot, or if you can release it from your calendar this time around. There are lots of reasons a model may not be confirmed for a shoot, but it is never personal! It can come down to something as simple as being ever so slightly too tall for the samples they plan to shoot that day.
DOES MY CHILD NEED A LICENCE TO SHOOT? WHAT ABOUT SCHOOL PERMISSON?
A child performance license is put in place every time a child under the age of 16 attends a shoot. It is issued by the council in which the model is based, and is something Wayward will handle for you. License timelines can vary depending on the council’s own lead times, and can require anything from 48hrs to 21days, 10 working days being the average. If the model is aged 5yrs or over, they will require a school permission letter as part of this license application. Wayward will provide a template for this. You do not need to contact your school or council ahead of time. Licenses are arranged on a shoot by shoot basis and the agency will let you know when to reach out to the school.
WHAT IS A CALL SHEET?
A call sheet is issued a few days ahead of the shoot, and contains information such as the model’s call time (what time they need to arrive on set), anything they need to bring or prepare, a map and/or travel information, and which team members will be there on the day. The agency will email this to the participating model when it arrives.
CAN I TAKE PHOTOS AND BEHIND THE SCENES FOOTAGE ON SET?
This is up to the clients discretion. If it is allowed, it is imperative that no photos or videos are shared online until the official images have been released by the client. Launches are often confidential and it’s important there are no leaks ahead of time.
HOW OFTEN SHOULD I SEND UPDATES TO MY CHILDS MODELLING AGENCY?
At Wayward, we ask that if your child is under 24 months, updates should be emailed across once a month. That is to include height (head to heel), shoe size (if applicable) and fresh home snapshots. If your child is 2yrs +, updates are due once at least every two months.
